Haloze has been connected with Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia, for centuries. Ptuj is famous for its Shrovetide (Halloween masks and costumes) and the “kurent”, a typical masquerade character that chases away evil spirits in the time from Candlemas to Ash Wednesday in winter time. The vicinity of Ptuj is perfect for a romantic walk or dinner by the river Drava, a game of golf or foot-golf, and also for pampering yourself in the thermal springs in Terme Ptuj. This historical town will charm you with its roman and medieval story. Many recreational possibilities in a form of hiking and biking on the Drava bike trail and many themed paths that can be upgraded with a visit to the mansion Trakoščan or the baroque city of Varaždin just across the border with Croatia. There are also some shopping and exploring possibilities in Maribor, Ljubljana, Croatian capital city Zagreb and Austrian city Graz.
